She told me all about the countless books she read about pregnancy itself. She knew what was happening each week internally to her body and her baby. She could explain exactly what she could anticipate emotionally and hormonally. This woman could even provide me with the potential weight and size of her baby at each passing week. I remember thinking to myself, “Wow,” this woman is like a walking pregnancy timeline. This is super cool. I then proceeded to ask the woman questions about the days and weeks following her pregnancy. What could she expect when her little one first arrives? Who will be there to help her with the ins and outs other than her spouse? How is she going to handle the sleep deprivation those first few weeks? What could she do to make things easier on herself? The woman no longer had an answer for me. She looked completely stumped. It is completely normal to not have an after birth plan in place. Women are often so excited about the end result, that they often forget to really plan for the baby’s arrival. This blog post is intended to provide my three top suggestions regarding planning for what is to come following the grand entrance of your little one. This is especially the case if this is your first pregnancy.

To begin with, we need to ensure the layette has everything it might possibly need to be fully functional and operational in order to avoid those late night emergencies. That includes a stash of diapers in NB (newborn) and size 1, wipes, A & D ointment, diaper rash cream, bibs, clothes for daily wear, jumpers (pj’s), hooded towels, washcloths, baby wash, sheets, receiving blankets for swaddling, thermometer, Q-tips, blankets, feeding supplies, gripe water, and anything else you might think is a real necessity. If you check online and search for layette musts, you will get an endless supply of ideas. You might even want to check with your pediatrician to see if he or she can make some other recommendations you may have not thought of. In terms of furniture for the baby, it is all about personal preference. Bassinets, cribs, and cradles all work the same. Just make sure they are within the standards in terms of safety recommendations. Oh yes, if you choose to bottle feed or breast pump, make sure you have a supply of feeding tools and parts to last for at least a day’s feeding. Limiting the amount of washing and cleaning can help you out significantly in the short term.

Now let’s move on to cooking. Do you really think you will be cooking elaborate meals the first several weeks? My thought is probably not. My first recommendation is to have freezer foods available for quick and easy meals. If you never heard of freezer cooking, now is the time to do some research. Simply put, freezer meals are meals made in advance, stored in the freezer and used for later quick and easy meals. Freezer meals can include anything from vegetable soups to baked ziti. Don’t forget to label each item you make and include the date of packaging. You wouldn’t want to try to figure out what food you are defrosting when you are completely sleep deprived. A crock pot also can be quite helpful. Crock pot cooking is quite simple. Just add the ingredients, set the temperature gauge, and the meal cooks itself. Now how easy is that?

The next item of discussion is to recruit help and lots of it! If you are fortunate enough to be able to financially afford a baby nurse, go ahead and make the investment. Baby nurses are there to make your recovery easier by taking care of the baby when you need time to rest. This is especially helpful if you end up with a c-section. Remember, not all c-sections are planned. A plan B is always recommended. A baby nurse can also be a great resource in terms of learning how to diaper your baby, bathe him or her, swaddle, and care for the umbilical cord. The recommendation for a baby nurse ranges from 1-3 weeks depending on the mother’s need. If a baby nurse is not an option, try to recruit family and friends. You will be surprised how many people want to help and be around a newborn baby. Remember the first few weeks are the hardest even for a pro. Booking family members and friends throughout the first few weeks can really make a significant difference. Family and friends can help with everything from diapering, cooking, cleaning bottles, rocking the baby, etc. Just ask them what to do, and I am sure they won’t bat an eye. They have been there, too!

On a more serious note, I want to point out some emotional changes that can occur following delivery. This is something not often discussed with a patient until the postpartum appointment. It is extremely normal to feel a little down or what is classified as the “baby blues” the first ten days following delivery. Baby blues are a direct result in the sudden drop of hormones levels. Symptoms of the baby blues may include sadness, crying, irritability and a sense of feeling down. This is a completely normal reaction and stage to go through. However, if your mood continues this way or declines after the initial ten days, you should then reach out to your healthcare provider. It is possible you could be suffering from a more serious issue called “postpartum depression.” Thankfully, this is completely treatable disorder and medication, therapy and/or personal life coaching can be super beneficial. Ten to fifteen percent of all moms report “postpartum depression.”Remember having a baby is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. It is also one the most stressful times as it a major transitional point. Everything as you know it changes. I recommend taking it easy on yourself and your new role. Each day will get easier. Each day will begin to feel more natural and rewarding. Once the little smiles and laughter begin, I guarantee it will all be worth it.

All the best to you and your new family.

Post written by Sabrina Roffman. Not only have I been able to tolerate the vitamins (including the iron, which is also normally a problem for me), but I have found that they actually help decrease my morning sickness. and even have a story of when we forgot something important or did something that made us feel less than sharp. Why is that? What is happening in our body to make us loose the edge we once had before pregnancy? Unfortunately, research hasn't been able to support our theory of “pregnancy brain”. A recent study shows the capacity of the brain is unaltered in pregnancy. The brain doesn't change during those 9 months even though we feel like our memory has left the building somewhere around week 4 or 5. But just because research doesn't show a change in the brain, we moms know something isn't the same. Here are a few tips to help you keep your edge.

1. Get enough rest. Many women find it difficult to get enough rest at night, especially during the third trimester. Get to bed earlier or even find time to take a nap when possible- the dishes and laundry can wait.

2. Take a DHA Omega-3 supplement. Research has shown DHA can help increase your short term memory and is great for baby's brain and eye development. It not only helps mom's memory, but has great benefits for the baby on board.

3. Eat well and take your daily prenatal vitamin. Food that gives you heart burn or irritates morning sickness symptoms can prevent you from sleeping well. Caffeine is also best to avoid during pregnancy.

4. Read a good book. Reading is a great way to keep your mind active. Pregnancy books are always fun and informative during this season.

5. Take a moment to regroup. Go for a walk or rest a moment and gather your thoughts. Make a to-do list to help you feel on top of your tasks and less overwhelmed.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month- Promise Prenatal Vitamins

As we enter into October and Breast Cancer Awareness month, we want to do our part to increase awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection. Here are some resources for creating an early detection plan, as well as becoming informed of the risk factors and prevention.

Create an Early Detection Plan

Risk Factors and Prevention

There are so many of us who have been effected directly and indirectly by breast cancer. I did a lot of research prior to purchasing any prenatal vitamins because I was trying to have a baby at 37. I would like you to know that I could not be any happier with my decision to choose your product. I am fortunate enough to have extremely healthy children but not only that, they are truly brilliant. They amaze everyone around them with the things they say or the things they do. Small motor skills, large motor skills, vocabulary, memory...I could go on endlessly. I often joke to my husband and say, "it's those vitamins I take". It's no joke. I believe they are the way they are largely because of your before during and after vitamins. Thanks for being a huge part of my life!" You also want to look for a supplement formulated with less iron and coated iron. Promise Prenatal Stage 1 is specifically designed with less iron and can be used the entire pregnancy if you find your morning sickness doesn't subside at 12-14 weeks. Stage 1 also contains higher levels of vitamin B6 to help ease the queasiness. Stage 1, 2 and 3 all use high quality coated iron for easier digestion. Your doctor may also want to prescribe extra B6 supplements.

* Bedtime seems to be the time of choice for many women. They take their vitamins and call it a day. If this time works best for you, be sure to have a hardy snack before you hit the pillow. Also, it's important you don't lie flat for 20-30 minutes after swallowing your pill. The most sensitive area of the stomach is at the top and lying down will sometimes irritate this area causing nausea.

* If even the thought of taking a prenatal vitamin makes you sick, try whipping up a yummy milkshake or smoothie, open the capsule and empty the powder into the blender. There isn't any taste or smell and you will drink down all of the great nutrition you and your baby needs without even noticing.

* Finding a time you'll remember to take your vitamin each day isn't always easy. Set an alarm on your phone or have some type of reminder. Prenatals should be taken daily.

Prenatal Vitamins: Made in the USA

We wanted to share a bit about who we are and why we do what we do! The jury is still out- but recent research says "yes". Genetics and good skin care both play a part in the texture, color and elasticity of your skin. Since we can't change our genetics, it's important we do what we can to take care of the skin we've been given. Using a daily belly butter or cream may reduce or even prevent marks from appearing. A few things to look for when choosing a stretch mark cream: be sure the cream is safe for pregnancy. A fragrance free cream is also important since most women have a sensitivity to smell while pregnant. Non-greasy, fast drying products are a plus if you use the product in the morning before dressing and look for all natural, hypoallergenic ingredients, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Promise Belly Butter is formulated with a blend of the following ingredients:

Calendula- making the skin more supple by increasing blood supply and contains anti-bacterial properties.

Aloe Vera Juice- containing 20 amino acids and supports the natural healing of skin.

Shea Butter- naturally rich in vitamins A and E which are essential for good skin balance and moisture. A maternity tank top, light weight skirt and some comfy sandals are perfect for an outing in the heat.

Tip #3
Plan a "baby-moon" before your little one arrives. Take a weekend trip to somewhere cooler or get away and relax at the beach for a few days. Grab a good book, your bottled water and kick your feet up. Oh, and don't forget to pack your prenatal vitamins.

Tip #4
Don't skimp on the sunscreen. During pregnancy you have higher levels of estrogen , making you more susceptible to melasma (dark splotching of the skin). You will need to wear an SPF of at least 50 since studies show most of us don't use enough of the lower SPF to provide sufficient protection. A hat should also be worn for long stretches of sun exposure.

Tip #5
Give your bump a dunk. Spend some time in the pool relieving the pressure off of your back and joints while cooling down your core. Gentle swimming or wading can be a refreshing and relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Don't forget to apply your water proof sunscreen.

Tip #6
Indulge yourself in some tasty cold treats. Frozen yogurt, smoothies, fruit Popsicles and cold watermelon are just a few low calorie ways to help keep the heat away. Shoot, even go for some real ice cream or a yummy snow cone when needed.

Tip #7
Stay in the shade or indoors when possible. Plan to stay in the air conditioning during the hottest times of the day (usually mid afternoon). Your body temp is extra hot with that baby on board and you want to avoid soaring outdoor temperatures which may increase your risk of heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Stay cool hot mamas and enjoy your summer!

<fb:like font="" href="http://promiseprenatal.blogspot.com/" send="true" show_faces="true" width="450"></fb:like>

Happy Mother's Day!

Mom's, you are amazing! One day a year isn't enough to celebrate all you do. We hope your day is full of love, relaxation and unforgettable memories. So, to all of our mom's who make up the Biotegrity team and those who we have the pleasure of serving each day, Happy Mother's Day!!! You get to relax while someone else takes care you — but then bed rest reality sets in. You can't go to work, shop, cook or even have a simple night out. If you're on complete bed rest, you may not even be able to shower or eat sitting up. So how does one prepare and cope with laying flat for weeks or even months on end?

Guest blogger and mom-to-be Melissa Hinnant shares her experiences firsthand and some helpful tips on surviving bed rest.

"After suddenly spending 2 weeks in strict hospital bed rest with my last pregnancy, I was *slightly* prepared when we received the news that I would be on strict home bed rest starting "now" this pregnancy. However, what I wasn't prepared for is, 2 months...yes 60 days, 8 weeks and 4 days or 1,440 hrs later I'm still here, horizontal.

Here are some tips that I have found a huge help with surviving bed rest:

1) Get a calendar, one you can hang on your wall next to you and each night cross off a day. It truly helps to see the time progressing and knowing that baby is still growing in there safe and sound.

2) ASK for help! Do not try to do things on your own. Try to find someone to cook/bring meals or set up a meal rotation, help with groceries, laundry, cleaning, etc. Friends and family are generally willing to help, but they need to know what you need help with. Do not be afraid to ask.

3) Schedule your days. I have found it very helpful to have a routine that breaks up your day and helps it to go by faster. For example, 8am-11:30am wake up, get ready, eat breakfast, read, send emails and browse the internet. 12pm-3pm eat lunch, lay outside (if your doctor allows) and do some crafting. 3pm-5pm (this often feels the longest stretch) more internet, crafting again and see some visitors. 6pm-10pm - eat dinner, watch television or a movie, shower, read and go to bed.

4) Take up a hobby. Some examples are crafting, scrapbooking, knitting or crocheting. I've learned to crochet - I've made baby girl a blanket, and now I'm making little teeny bows and headbands. I've also made an online recipe book by entering all of my recipes at www.tastebook.com. Photobooks are another great idea as they make the time pass quickly too. As soon as I can sit up I'll be working on a quilt for my little one.

5) Be mindful of what you are eating. Remember, your body is not moving so your metabolism and digestion are very slow. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and make sure to have some "healthy" snacks throughout the day. Drink a lot of water! I drink about 80-90oz a day (which is more than I ever have in my life), but it's very beneficial during pregnancy.

Bed rest, especially a lengthy one, is not easy. A HUGE revelation that came to me (one that will make or break your bed rest) is, it's all about how you set your perspective. You can mope, stress and dredge your way through it or you can choose to make the most of it. The Italians have a popular phrase "La Dolcezza di Fare Niente", which means "the sweetness of doing nothing". They have really grasped this concept, and it's time us Americans do too! Remember, this bed rest season will not last forever, and the next time you have a chance to rest like this will probably be in 21 years from now."

Follow Melissa's story on Rick and Melissa Plus 1.

It's not uncommon for expecting moms to have changes in their skin. Of course every woman's experience is different, but here is some information to help you prepare for, and even prevent, some of the changes from occurring.

One of the most common skin changes occurs on the face. The "Mask of Pregnancy", also referred to as melasma, causes dark splotchy spots to appear on the forehead, upper lip and cheeks. Women with darker complexions seem to be more prone to this condition than women with lighter skin. You may also notice that areas with dark pigmentation, such as freckles and moles, may become even darker. Hormonal changes during pregnancy stimulate a temporary increase in your body's production of melanin, the natural substance that gives color to hair, skin, and eyes. So what's a girl to do to prevent the "mask of pregnancy"? When you are planning to be outside, be sure to always wear a good sunscreen that is at least SPF 15, or wear your favorite hat or ball cap to protect your face from the sun. A good concealer can also be your new BFF if the spots really bother you.

You may have also noticed a dark line on your pretty baby bump. This is called linea nigra and may have always been there, but not as noticeable because it was a lighter color. During pregnancy this line darkens. It usually appears around the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy and will begin to fade after delivery. Stretch marks may also appear on a mom's growing belly, but using a stretch mark cream high in vitamin E can help strengthen the skins elasticity and even prevent them from appearing.

The "pregnancy glow" is a welcomed change to a woman's skin. The glow is often from the knowledge and anticipation of the life growing inside, as well as eating right and taking a daily prenatal vitamin. It can also be linked to an increase in blood volume. Women typically see an increase of 40-50% in blood volume during pregnancy, which can give a mom-to-be a nice healthy look.

After delivery your skin may take a few months to return to it's "pre-pregnancy" state. It's crucial to continue protecting yourself from the sun during this time.
What better way to get going in the morning than with a delicious cup of Joe! However, if you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant, you may need to find a new drink that doesn't contain the glorious stimulant we all know and love - caffeine!

Caffeine crosses the placenta to your baby. While we can usually handle the effects of this stimulant, our little one on board can't. Your baby's metabolism is still maturing and cannot fully process the caffeine. Even small amounts of caffeine can cause changes in your baby's sleep pattern and normal movement patterns in the later stages of pregnancy. It also increases your heart rate and blood pressure, both of which are not recommended during pregnancy. Many women find it hard to sleep during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, so adding a stimulant may make getting much-needed sleep even harder.

We know that caffeine is not recommended during preconception and pregnancy, but decaffeinated coffees and teas should be avoided as well. These beverages contain compounds called phenols that can make it hard for your body to absorb iron. Many pregnant women are already low in iron and this can add to your deficiency. If you do drink coffee or tea, it's best to have between meals and not with your prenatal vitamin.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Getting enough folate is crucial in preventing birth defects and now new research shows it may help prevent premature delivery. Here's what you need to know to give your baby the best possible start.

Spina bifida is the most common form of Myelomeningocele, a neural tube defect in which the bones of the spine do not completely form, resulting in an incomplete spinal canal. This condition causes the spinal cord and the tissues covering the spinal cord to be exposed. Myelomeningocele may affect as many as 1 out of every 800 infants, however, getting enough folate (or folic acid) in your daily diet and through a prenatal supplement, before and during pregnancy, can reduce your baby's risk up to 70%. Recent research also has found that getting the recommended amount of folate can reduce baby's risk of being born with a cleft lip or cleft palate by one-third.

And as if that's not reason enough to take this amazing B Vitamin, there's more,

The latest research shows a link between folate and the prevention of preterm-birth. In a study of 38,000 women (sponsored by the National Institutes of Health), folate supplementation for at least one year before conception was linked to a 70% decrease in very early preterm deliveries at weeks 20 to 28 and a 50% decline in deliveries at 28 to 32 weeks.

For this wonder vitamin to give you the greatest benefits, you need to start supplementing before conception. Birth defects of the spine and brain occur in the first weeks of pregnancy. If you are already pregnant, it's ok, don't fret- getting the folate you need is still important. Both diet and supplementation is necessary. Most prenatal vitamins contain 800-1,000 micrograms, which is perfect for moms to be and those already pregnant. But don't skimp out on the foods containing folate, like fortified cereals, beans and leafy greens. Food is the easiest way for your body to absorb folic acid.

For more information, be sure to ask your OBGYN if you're doing all you can do to give your baby the best possible start!

Morning Sickness and the 411 on B6

Share

<o:smarttagtype name="country-region" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"></o:smarttagtype><o:smarttagtype name="place" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"></o:smarttagtype> One of the "not so joyous" parts of pregnancy is morning sickness. The name is kind of deceiving since morning sickness isn't limited to just the morning. About half of all pregnant women experience it around week 6. Many women start feeling relief at week 14 but there is a small percentage who experience nausea and vomiting throughout their entire pregnancy (big hug for those moms). Of course, just because morning sickness is common and likely to last "only" a few months doesn't mean it's not a challenge. Even a mild case of nausea can wear you down and leave you exhausted and miserable.

So, here's some good news! Women who experience morning sickness during pregnancy often find relief in taking a B6 supplement. No one knows for sure why this works, but the supplementation of B6 has stood the test of time for effectiveness. Doctors first started prescribing B6 as a morning sickness remedy in the 1940s. Numerous studies since then have shown that taking a higher dose of B6 does have a lessening effect on nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

A study performed in China also proved that higher levels of B6 can increase the chance of conception and lower the risk of early term miscarriage. The results were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. The study found that women with B6 levels above 30 had a 40% greater chance of conception and lowered their early miscarriage rate by 30%. Women with lower levels of B6 were negatively impacted by their deficiency. Alayne Ronnenberg, author of the study explains, "We found that poor preconception vitamin B6 status was associated with increased risk of early pregnancy loss and reduced probabilities of conception and clinical pregnancy in a prospective cohort of young Chinese women."

Many prenatal vitamins contain B6. Look for a vitamin that contains a high dose of B6. Also, talk with your doctor or midwife about your symptoms and the possibilities for relief.

Get Your Glow On!

Share

What causes that “pregnancy glow” so many women have while pregnant? Poetically speaking, the glow is from the knowledge and anticipation of the life growing inside, as well as healthier eating and living. However, technically it can be linked to an increase in blood volume. Women typically see a gain of 40-50% in blood levels during pregnancy.

This increased blood volume boosts blood flow to the uterus and kidneys and compensates for the blood lost during delivery. Anemia (which is too few red blood cells) can develop during pregnancy from dilution of red blood cells as a result of the increased volume. The fetus uses the mother’s red blood cells to aid in development, especially during the third trimester. We moms are, of course, happy to share, but it's important that we take care of ourselves as well.

How do you know if you have anemia? Some of the signs are: fatigue, dizziness, pale skin, rapid heartbeat, or difficulty breathing. Visit your OBGYN for blood testing to know for sure.

The best prevention for anemia is taking an iron supplement or a prenatal vitamin containing the correct Daily Recommended Intake (DRI) of iron (9mg ). Sounds easy enough. Another way to prevent anemia is to start storing iron before you become pregnant. Since iron is stored in bone marrow, a prenatal vitamin used during preconception is helpful. Any iron stored up before pregnancy can be used during pregnancy to aid in fetal development.

Unfortunately, many women have a hard time tolerating iron during pregnancy, so it is important to try different products until you find one that works for you. If you have a hard time tolerating the iron in your prenatal vitamin, try another brand that might be better tolerated. Look for a prenatal vitamin containing micro-encapsulated iron, which tends to be gentler on the stomach. The iron is released over time, which alleviates the number one cause of iron-related nausea, iron hitting the stomach all at once.

So get your glow on girls! Your body and your baby will thank you.

Thumbs Up or Down for Vitamin A

Share

Is Vitamin A during pregnancy ok? The answer is thumbs up AND down, making the acceptable dosage during pregnancy confusing to figure out. Here is the scoop. Vitamin A comes in two main forms: preformed (retinoid form- found in meats and fortified foods) and beta-carotene (which converts to the retinol form within the body- found in fruits and vegetables). Multivitamins (including prenatal vitamins) may contain either form of Vitamin A.

Too much of the preformed Vitamin A can lead to birth defects and liver toxicity. This risk is highest during the first few weeks of pregnancy. You may consume as much beta-carotene as you wish at any stage of pregnancy. Beta-carotene only converts to the retinol form of Vitamin A when needed. Because of this built-in limiting mechanism, you cannot overdose on beta-carotene.

When looking for a prenatal vitamin, check both the source and amounts of Vitamin A to ensure that you do not exceed the recommended limitations (10,000 IU) during pregnancy. You must also keep in mind the amount of Vitamin A that you receive through your diet. Promise Prenatal vitamins (Stage 1) contain no Vitamin A for the pre-conception period through the first trimester. Stages 2 and 3 contain Vitamin A in the beta-carotene form to help nurture the baby’s growth and maintain the mother’s health.

Vitamin A helps maintain eye health and fight off infections and helps your body rebuild and recover after pregnancy. Your baby benefits from Vitamin A through cell growth, eye and health development, fat metabolism and bone growth.

Sharing the Big News

It's fun sharing the good news of being pregnant! Some of us want to shout it to the world (usually via Facebook, Tweet or blogging) and others are more private and only want a select few to know at first. Whichever category you fall under, it's fun to be creative in sharing the news. Here are a few fun ideas to help you spill the beans.

Creative ways to tell your partner that you’re pregnant:

Make a meal of baby corn, baby carrots, baby back ribs, a salad of baby greens, etc. and see if he understands the hint. If not, ask him what the common theme of the meal is and if he sees any significance.

Use a photo editing program like Morphthing.com (free with registration online) to morph your face and your partner’s. Give him the photo and label it as “Our future-due in 9 months”

Wrap up a baby name book and give it to your partner saying that you bought him a great book about his future.

If you have a dog that runs to greet people who come to the door, tie a note around the dog’s collar saying “Heather’s pregnant” for your partner to find.

Creative ways to tell you family/friends that you’re pregnant:

Mail birth announcements with your due date and a question mark for the name, sex, and weight.

Give them a framed photo of your ultrasound.

Have your older child wear a shirt that says “I’m going to be a big sister(or brother)”

Gather everyone for an impromptu family photo. Have your partner take the photo and say “Ok everyone, say Lucy’s pregnant!” instead of “cheese.” You’ll get a great photo of everyone’s reaction.

Invite everyone over for a dinner and when your guests come to the door, answer it with a pillow stuffed under your shirt to look pregnant. It is best if you can do it with a straight face. I love being the first to find a good deal or get the scoop on some new amazing, must have product. Here is some great information you will want to know. DHA before, during and after pregnancy, here’s why …
New research proves that prenatal DHA supplementation really does improve a child’s motor, visual, and cognitive development. The study of 109 infants was conducted in Quebec and the results were recently published in the Journal of Pediatrics.

DHA levels of the umbilical cord were tested to determine the amount of DHA the child received in utero. “DHA concentration in the umbilical cord is a good indicator of intra-uterine exposure to omega-3s during the last trimester of pregnancy, a crucial period for the development of retinal photoreceptors and neurons,” explained lead researcher Eric Dewailly.

The infants were subjected to visual and motor tests at age 6 months and 11 months. The level of DHA present in the umbilical cord at birth was very closely related to the child’s development speed and progress.

There are also studies that show omega-3 supplementation can influence breast milk composition and subsequently a child’s brain. Mothers who take DHA also have lower instances of postpartum depression and often recover from pregnancy more quickly.

DHA is just one of many important nutrients for a healthy pregnancy. It is highly recommended that women take a pregnancy vitamin before, during, and even after pregnancy. Many women do not get all of the essential nutrients needed through diet alone. Supplementing a balanced diet with a prenatal vitamin is always a good idea. Many women begin to take DHA and a prenatal vitamin before pregnancy to increase their chance of conception.

Find out more. It's a time for close friends and family to come together to celebrate you and your new baby (not to mention, shower you with useful gifts). Baby showers are always best when well organized and the host stays within the comfort levels of the mom-to-be.
Theme:
There are so many wonderful colors, themes and designs for this summer! A shower theme, if one is desired, is chosen by the host after consulting with the honored guest- you. Themes may make it easier for the guests to bring gifts and also make it easier for planning when there is a group effort (a group of hosts- not just one). Location is also key in picking a theme (indoor or outdoor, formal or informal location etc.).
Food:
First, decide which foods will complement the location of the event. If you are planning to have the shower in a park on a hot summer day, raw vegetable trays, sweet rolls or slices of sourdough bread will stand the heat. Anything that may spoil should be packed well in ice. Also, be sure to bring plenty of water for the guests. Almost anything works for an indoor shower, providing you have the refrigeration. Host should always consider you when planning the food- is spicy food giving you heartburn lately or is there something you are craving!
Games:
Games are a great icebreaker but they must be done tastefully and within your comfort level. With out spoiling the elements of surprise you may want to ask your host and make sure the games are something that won't embarrass you or her.

Enjoy your shower to the fullest! It's all about you and your baby. Let your friends pamper you and make you feel special.

Share

As We Grow

As Biotegrity Corporation continues to grow we are purposeful about maintaining the small business culture we have become accustomed to.
